Kaziranga National Park

Declared as the world heritage site in 1985, Kaziranga National Park is situated in Assam and known more for its population of tigers, leopards and one-horned rhinoceros. It sprawls across 430 sq km and is situated on the banks of the River Brahmaputra. The forest is full of swamps and tall elephant grass thickets. It was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1940. The other animals that can be seen here are Indian Elephants, Indian Bisons, Swamp Deers, Hog Deers, Sloth Bears, Jungle Cats, Otters, Hog Badgers, Capped Langurs, Hoolock Gibbons, Wild Boars, Jackals, Wild Buffalos, Pythons and Monitor Lizards among many others. It is also a paradise for ornithologists and one can see number of local and migratory birds here such as Oriental Honey Buzzard, Black-Shouldered Kite, Black Kite, Brahminy Kite, Pallas's Fishing Eagle and White Tailed Eagle.One can also find Grey-Headed Fishing Eagle, Himalayan Griffon, Greylag Geese, Ruddy Shelduck, Gadwall, Falcated Duck, Red-Crested Pochard and Northern Shoveller. Elephant Safari in Kaziranga is fun. Besides the royal experience of riding an elephant, an elephant safari offers you unlimited options for wildlife viewing. One has to rise early to start on the elephant safari that starts in the early hours of the dawn and authorized trained Mahouts guide visitors through the park. The national park is easily accessible and offers you several opportunities to view the wildlife close at hand. The coffee and rubber plantations nearby fill the park with rich fragrant odors while people living at the Karbi villages lead a very simple life that one may like to observe the. You can also visit the tea gardens of Assam here. One can also make film shows here but prior permission is required for it.
